Brentwood, CA

Brentwood is a city in East Contra Costa, with a population of roughly 65,000.

Brentwood’s history dates back to the Spanish days of John Marsh, an American-born, but later citizen of Mexico, who was one of the wealthiest men in the US who bought the land from Don Jose Noreiga.

While Brentwood was originally a farming territory, the suburban residential community of Brentwood, significantly overtook farming, although there are still plenty of local crops, notably cherries, peaches, and corn for sale.

But like the rest of Contra Costa County, gradually, residential property overtook many of the farms.

During the 1990s, Brentwood grew by triple digits, and then in the 2000s, the population skyrocketed.

Brentwood now boasts a city populace comprised of 77 percent homeowners.

The high figure is due in part to the fact that homes are still cheap even in 2021, running at a medium cost of $820,000.

Since 45 to 55 miles to the West in Oakland and San Francisco, homes run a minimum of $1.4 million or more.

Even renters save money by moving to Brentwood and commuting, paying an average of around $2100 a month to rent a home.

Residents of Brentwood have an average median family income of nearly $109,000, so they do not mind the long commute to work.

The largest employer in the city only employs about 1,000, so the vast majority of residents make the long commute to either Oakland or San Francisco.

There are some top-rated schools in Brentwood, and overall the schools are rated an A-, which is fantastic for families.

Like the rest of Contra Costa, there is plenty of petty theft and vehicle theft, but in surveys, over 90 percent of residents reported that they feel safe living in Brentwood.

Brentwood is ethnically diverse, although racial tensions remain relatively low.

There is plenty to do in Brentwood, as the Baytree shopping mall fills most people’s shopping needs and there are restaurants galore.

In addition, there are 14 city parks, and the city is developing a series of hiking trails in the city parks.

Altogether, Brentwood is a great place to live if you don’t mind the long commute, and the city continues to grow. If you love hiking, fishing, and parks, check out Oakley.
